With less than a month before Christmas, shops on the Square are loaded with holiday attire and ready for shoppers.
“Our boss goes to market about two to three times a year and we get so many boxes, so many shipments, over 40 boxes within a week and double that will come the next week. We get a lot of seasonal things like clothes and jewelry to go along with the holidays,” said Alexis Littman, manager at Miss Behavin.
Littman says that Miss Behavin stays busy over the holidays even though the college students are out of school.
“We don’t usually lose business over the holidays because a lot of the students stick around for a while until like the week of, and we also have a lot of high-school students that shop here from the Oxford area as well,” said Littman.
Maggie Thompson, employee at Ooh La La Boutique, says that they do lose some business over Thanksgiving break but it picks up tremendously on Black Friday, which is one of their busiest days of the year.
“Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Thanksgiving break we had 20 percent off sale to bring customers in and then the day after Thanksgiving we had a huge Black Friday sale where customers could get up to 50 percent off,” said Thompson.
Thompson says that during the rest of the year they don’t usually have sales like they do in November and December.
“We have more and bigger sales during the holiday season than any other time of the year. Sales were up by 20 percent during our 3-day sale over Thanksgiving break. Then we have our Christmas sale starting the 28th and going on for a couple weeks where customers can buy one item and get anything else in the store of equal or lesser value half price,” said Thompson.
Avery MacArthur, a frequent shopper at the Square, says she likes what she finds in the stores during this time of the year.
“I’m definitely going to shop for holiday clothes for myself as well because they have such a great selection of seasonal clothes and jewelry that I can ear to family dinners and also parties for New Year’s and stuff like that,” said MacArthur.
MacArthur says the shops on the Square have a variety of things that make great gifts for Christmas as well.
“My friends and I are doing a gift exchange before we go home and I plan on going to Miss Behavin’ because they have a lot of items that make great gifts, like House of Harlow jewelry and other fashion forward items,” said MacArthur.
Littman says MacArthur is in good company.
“A lot of the girls come in early before they go home for Christmas and they buy presents and they can see all of the older clothes that are on sale as well as all the new seasonal clothes that we have,” said Littman.
